The College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences (CVMAS) is one of the early organized colleges in the University of Gondar. It was inaugurated in 2003 as the first Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in the Amhara region where livestock is the major agricultural practice. The department of Veterinary Biomedical sciences was inaugurated in 2003 as the unit of biomedical sciences while the college is first launched.
Mission
The mission of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences, is also the mission of the Department of veterinary Biomedical science too, is to provide adequate veterinary, biomedical, and animal science manpower and expertise, take part in the improvement and upholding of animal and human health and wellbeing through veterinary and animal science education, undertaking applied research and basic researches and rendering community service in the field of veterinary medicine, pharmacy, and animal science.
Vision
The vision of the college is to become among the top performing institutes in the country by 2020 and center of excellence in “Veterinary Public Health and Food Animal Medicine and production”.
In the department of Veterinary Biomedical sciences, the college has the following four labs:
- Molecular biology (Central Lab of the college) laboratory
- Gross Veterinary Anatomy laboratory
- Veterinary Histology laboratory
- Veterinary physiology laboratory
