The College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences (CVMAS) is one of the well-organized colleges at the University of Gondar. It was inaugurated in 2003 as the first Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in the Amhara region, where livestock is an integral part of the significant agricultural practice. It was established to produce competent graduates to fulfill the national gap for skilled veterinarians, pharmacists, and animal science experts. The college comprises five undergraduate and 18 postgraduate programs (13 MSc and 5 PhD). Among the undergraduate programs, the Veterinary Pharmacy program is the first in the country to produce competent Veterinary Pharmacists.
The college strives for quality education, research, and community engagement and works to address issues of globalization and changes in scenarios such as food security, one health, biosecurity, transboundary animal diseases, exotic animal, disease control, breed improvement, economic, entrepreneurship, information technology, and food safety.
